Why can UAN be applied at different times?

Can UAN be applied to frozen-thawed soil?

Can UAN be applied during pre-sowing cultivation?

Yes. This is one of the most practical ways to use UAN for spring crops. The fertilizer can be applied before sowing and subsequently incorporated into the soil. This approach places nitrogen within the future root zone and reduces the risk of ammonia losses compared with leaving the urea component on the soil surface for an extended period. This is particularly important under warm and dry conditions.

When should UAN be applied to corn?

Corn takes up nitrogen unevenly throughout its growth cycle. At the early growth stages, its nitrogen demand is relatively low, but it increases sharply as vegetative biomass develops. Therefore, the entire planned nitrogen rate does not necessarily need to be applied in a single application.

UAN allows nitrogen applications to be split, for example: part of the rate can be applied before sowing or during pre-sowing tillage, and the remainder during the growing season, when nitrogen uptake is most active.
